December Dress

I get a lot of feedback from people that I am super creative.  So not true.

I sew, I blog, I take photos, sure.  I do creative things.  But I do them by the book and copy inspirations I see.  When I do mash a pattern, I am super proud of myself. But even then, I am following both patterns.

This honest self-deprecation is needed to give credit where credit is due to my inspiration for this December Dress (part of the Winter 2018 Collection)

I saw Kristi from George and Ginger wearing a December Dress with hearts and I needed a December Dress with hearts!    It’s exactly like when Cady Heron wore army pants and flip flops and we all wanted army pants and flip flops.

My fabric stash is absurdly large because I love having the perfect fabric for the look right on the spot.  In that large (unorganized) stash, I just happened to have some DBP with hearts from Elevated Fashion Fabrics.

I was really worried I wouldn’t have enough (only a 2 yard cut) but the December Dress is super fabric frugal!    I did have to block the back to make it work, so the back has a waist seam that is not part of the pattern, but I got it out of 2 yards!

I also added one inch to the bust in lieu of a full bust adjustment.

Here’s a link to how to do a full bust adjustment for inset sleeves, should you need one! (or if you aren’t sure if you need one)

I love how George and Ginger Patterns can predict the style for next season or next year.  She is so on-trend all the time!

I think what I am saying is that I trust G&G.  So I am willing to try new things.  We’ve already established that I am not creative and I am really kind of stiff.  But I can look trendy just by making anything G&G is releasing.  This dress is no different!

I was nervous about how the December Dress might accentuate my hips, but I put faith in her designs and was not disappointed!

This is the dress length, hemmed bottom, no pockets.   I am not a pockets person (gasp, I know!) but I find myself putting too much stuff in them (I carry around two cell phones at work all day, plus my access badge, pen and whatever else).

This pattern is also super adorable as a top, tunic or mini-dress and with a banded bottom.

I am so glad I tried this out, it’s so unique, nothing else I have in my closet compares.  Going to work is much more pleasant when I am not wearing the same uniform every day.

Can’t wait to see what this next year brings for George and Ginger.

The December Dress is part of the three pattern Winter 2018 Collection.  The collection was released for the Three Year Anniversary celebration for George and Ginger.

The Three Year Anniversary celebration also included the re-release of the Ginger Dress with extended sizing.

Edit to Add my Most Recent version of the December Dress

I used the cornflower blue liverpool from Amelia Lane Designs to make a December Dress – I used my scraps to make gloves and a headband to do a little cosplay!
