Bahama Mama Vintage Swimsuit

Every summer I have the same panic:  I’m going to be expected to go to an event that requires a swimsuit and I’m not going to have one that fits or I feel comfortable wearing!

Fortunately, this year I’m ready for it!

I got to test Peek-A-Boo’s vintage-inspired swimsuit and it’s exactly the look I was going for!

and since we live so close to a marina and there’s probably knee boarding in my future, I was happy to see a boyshorts option!

There’s also options for cross back. I went with halter so that I can tie it nice and tight for active days!

There’s a built in shelf bra, but the cups are removable, so you don’t have to buy a new set for every swimsuit and you can wash them separately.

They sew up really quick too, about 3 hours for me and that includes lining and a shelf bra!

My measurements are 46.5/42/51 and I wear the XXXL.  I didn’t grade in for my smaller bust but I did add length because my girth is a little over the fit chart, I was a 72.5.

Amy has a really great explanation in the tutorial on how to measure and adjust for your girth that helped me make the first swim suit that has hit my body in the proportions in should in so long!

In 7th grade I went to an end of year pool party for the marching band and when I jumped into the pool, I came out the top of my modest one-piece speedo swimsuit. I didn’t have a lot up top, but I was long and my suitsuit wasn’t.  I’ve been afraid of repeating that moment and avoiding wearing a swimsuit for most of my adult life.  Making my own is a total game changer!

Pattern Stats –
Maternity possible:  Not without a hack.

Nursing possible: The designer (Amy) recommends using the cross-over straps and pulling them off one shoulder.  You could also do the ption shown (halter) and you’d need to untie each time.
